I didn't know we had ocean front property . . .

Well, this is attempt #2 at a blog update.  I had one almost complete last night and half of it got deleted.  So, we’ll try again.

We just got back from Jacob's 9 month appointment and ear check up.  He still has some fluid but the infection is gone . . . that's half way there.  Now we just need to keep the infection away and give the fluid time to go away.  We'll see what the coming days bring.  I jokingly said to Mark I'm going to put him in a bubble for 2 weeks so he doesn't pick up a new cold . .  . that might be a good idea anyway at the rate this child is moving!  He weights 20lbs, 4oz (50th percentile), is 29 inches long (75th percentile) and his head circumference is 43.5cm (10th percentile).  These are all the same as our last 2 check up as far as following the growth curve so he's doing great.  She told us to keep trying more new foods, letting him feed himself more and that we can start trying meat and fish.  And, we didn't have to get any shots today! :-) Wow, how is this child growing so quickly!?!

A busy 9 month old.

A very tired 9 month old!

And a very curious 9 month old.  The apple doesn't fall far from the tree . . . leaves are his specialty.

The above pictures are from yesterday, celebrating his 9 month birthday.  He is a busy boy these days.  He celebrated his 9 month birthday with little sleep and his first shiner.  It’s a small one but big enough to make the official record books.  He has a basketball hoop that he likes to pull over and yesterday he pulled it over onto his face.  It didn’t phase him for a second,  he just kept playing, but the evidence is there today.  He’s ALL BOY!!!

What Mom?
The new way to play basketball.
Can you see the little shiner under his left eye?

Jacob is crawling, babbling, standing, eating, and not sleeping much these days.  He’s a growing boy and it seems as if everyday he meets new developmental milestones.  His most recent achievement is learning how to roll over from his back to his belly; he was sitting up in his crib when Mark went to get him up from his nap Saturday morning, that was a first.   This comes with a great deal of sleep deprivation for all of us because he no longer wants to lie down in his crib.  As soon as we put him in his crib he sits up and usually stands up.  The last few days have been a battle to get him to sleep!  He still hasn’t figured out that he’ll get the best sleep lying down so he’s been falling asleep sitting up and then eventually face-planting and sleeping like he is in the picture below.  This is also where the title of this post comes into play.  Sunday night Jacob was awake screaming at midnight.  He has a "sleep sheep" stuffed animal that plays the ocean sound for 45 minutes when he's going to bed.  We turned the volume up really loud on the sleep sheep trying to help him fall back asleep and as Mark and I were lying in bed listening to him fuss Mark says "I didn't know we had ocean front property".  It was quite funny in the middle of the night with little sleep.

This is how he ends up sleeping after falling asleep sitting up.

Hi Dad!

Can I help you?  This was after he knocked the night light on the floor while he was supposed to be napping.
(Don't worry, the crib has since been lowered so he can't peer over the railing)

In other news, we've been Jacob proofing like crazy.  We got a new TV stand and got rid of our old glass one, got a fireplace hearth cover, put locks on all of the cabinets except for the one with Tupperware, and have moved everything up up up.  Bailey gets her water while Jacob is at school and after he goes to bed (she's such a good sport). He’s a curious little boy these days and it’s a lot of fun to watch him explore the world!   He plays in the paper recycling box everyday, enjoys plastic bottles as much as Bailey does, takes everything out of the tupperware cabinet while I'm fixing dinner and loves playing with our shoes.

Jacob proofing fail #1. Mommy and Daddy-0, Jacob-1

Attempting to make it 2-0 . . . we're tied now :-) (this one has tape on it)

Colanders make excellent hats!

The Sunday morning paper provided a good hour of entertainment.

What are you looking at?
Now that I'm done sorting the DVDs I'll see what else I can find.  (This glass stand the the DVD have since been removed!)

Sorting the recycling.

And maybe a little more sorting.

He's very interested in standing and pulls himself up on anyone that sits on the ground with him as well as anything else he can hold onto.  We put the legs on his two music tables this week and he's had a blast with them.  Here's a video of him playing with one in his room yesterday.  He has also been consistently waving "Hi" and "Bye" for over a week and likes to start waving "Hi" to Bailey every morning as soon as we start to walk out of his room because we always go see her first.  It's adorable!  He seems to enjoy being at school and playing with his friends there.  Three of them are crawling right now and when I went to see him the other day at lunch they had a little crawling train going around the room pulling all the toys off of the shelves.

Standing at school.

Hi Mom!

As I posted a week or so ago, we had a good trip to Hilton Head and enjoyed seeing Michael and Claire (minus Jacob getting sick again).  He seemed to like the beach for the few minutes we were there and we're looking forward to our family beach trip this summer!
