This and That

Sorry for the lack of posts, it's been a busy past couple of weeks. Mark and I have both been quite busy at work, we've been cleaning and organizing things around the house, taken a few more baby classes, and hosted a couple of house guests. Shew, I'm exhausted just trying to remember it all.

Babywise: We have just a few more odds and ends to pick up before he arrives but I think we're ready :-). Well, we still need a name, minor details. Last week we had a newborn care class one night (Mark is now a pro at swaddling), and a breast feeding class another night. His crib is ready, and the car seat will be going in the car soon. The hospital has a car seat safety class on July 9th so we have to put it in the car by then.

House guests: Last weekend our friends Aaron and Melissa moved back to Gainesville and stayed with us Monday night. This week our friend Christine and her 8 month old Luke are staying with us and we're having the second preview into our lives 8 months down the road. Luke has grown up so much since they were here a few months ago. He's crawling everywhere now, pulling up on things, and it just so much fun! Christine is also a wonderful friend and great parenting advice giver; we're enjoying having both of them here!

Between the house cleaning, and house guests Bailey has been quite busy/exhausted recently. Here's a picture Mark snapped with his phone the other night. She went to bed before us (she's gets impatient waiting for us if we stay up late) and when we were going to bed we found her curled up on her bed with her pink blanket. I love our furry girl!!!

Tomorrow I'm 36 weeks and by the end of the week the month of the babe(hopefully) has officially arrived! :-)

Gainesville Baby Shower

Last Sunday I had my second baby shower. It was thrown by friends and coworkers in Gainesville and we were once again showered with lots of love (and gifts). Suzanne and Megan came to stay with us and went to the shower. The shower was at a park in Alachua, a little town north of Gainesville. We had yummy food and enjoyed a few baby shower activities. Everyone created scrap book pages with pictures of our family and guesses about the baby's birth date, weight, length, hair color, eye color, and name. I haven't gotten the final product yet but I'm looking forward to seeing it! Along with good food, great company and fun activities we received some wonderful gifts. Many of the people there are mothers of young children and gave us all of the essentials for the first few months (things for nursing, diapers, wipes, a stroller fan for the FL heat, bath tub, etc.). We also got a diaper bag, two beautiful hand made blankets, and a hand crocheted "football" for his newborn pictures. It was a special day and so wonderful to know how much support we have in Gainesville to welcome our new addition.

* I'll post pictures as soon as I get them*

Baby Update

Well . . . he's due in 6 weeks and time is going by so fast (I hope it continues to)! Last week we ordered our car seat (now we can bring him home with us), I've been washing his clothes little by little, and Mom re-covered the rocking chair cushions which will be ready as soon as we Scotch Guard them.

Our crib was supposed to be here at the beginning of June . . .yes you read that right, supposed to be. We ordered this thing in January thinking how ridiculously early we were, ha ha! When I called the store last week it's now back ordered until the end of July so we decided to figure out plan B. On the way back from the beach we stopped in Jacksonville and started search #2 for a crib. I don't think we're very picky, we want a simple, classic, white crib and for some reason they are surprisingly hard to find! After a couple hours of searching on my phone while we drove we were able to find 3 cribs to look at and ended up ordering a new one. It's exactly what we wanted, was on sale for the same price as the one we originally ordered, AND . . . will be here TOMORROW!
Now Mark has a weekend project . . . and we can finally unpack the crib mattress that's been here for weeks as well all of the cute crib bedding we've had for months. :-)

I had a check up with the doctor today. It was quick and easy, nothing new. Our little man has been moving around a lot recently, he likes to squirm and wiggle around the same time I like to go to bed every night. The doctor took belly measurements today and listened to his heartbeat. I go back in two weeks for another check up and then begin weekly appointments until he arrives.

Edisto 2011

Last week we spent a week at the beach with the Wakleys. Our annual trip to Edisto Island, SC was
just like it's been for the past 20+ years (which is why it's so nice), but it went by really fast.

Mark and Dad played golf 3 days, we spent some time walking on the beach, read books, played games, put together a puzzle, took a driving tour of Botany Bay Plantation, found sharks teeth, and ate at all of our usual favorite restaurants.

We did have a few Edisto firsts this year though . . . since I couldn't rent a traditional beach cruiser bike I rented an adult tricycle to cruise around the island on. It was fun and an adventure.

Mark won the 2nd annual Hokie Bird Bobble Head competition on the island hole so we get to house the trophy in our house for another year. His drive 10 feet from the hole on their first round proved to be enough to bring home the win.

We also watched a family of Sanderlings during our daily walks along the bay, and we experienced opening night at Lyons Club Bingo. Dad won a game and chose a big box of golf balls from the prize table.

This was our last trip before the arrival of our little man and it was nice to get away and relax with family . . . next years beach trip will be a much different adventure!

Time to Relax

This is the view we're enjoying for the next week. . . ahhhhhhh!
