August Update

Every time I write a blog post I start out by talking about how things have been so busy and then the next month always seems to be busier.  I'm not sure how that's possible but August has been no different!   Right now I have a few minutes to write because I'm sitting in the hospital waiting room while Mark has surgery.  (More on that later).  We started off with Jacob's birthday celebration.  "Ganma" and "Gandad" (Mark's parents) came to visit and we took Jacob to the Tampa zoo on his birthday.  It was a REALLY hot day so we only stayed for about 2 hours but we got to see a baby rhino, baby elephant and feed a giraffe so it was a successful trip.  The afternoon of the 1st Mark had a doctor's appointment with a general surgeon to discuss his continued hip pain and was diagnosed with a sport hernia and tight tendons. (A tear/weakening in his lower abdominal wall).  Hence the reason why I'm sitting in the waiting room right now.  We're keeping fingers and toes crossed and saying our prayers that this takes care of his pain and puts him on a road to recovery.  It's been a long 2.5 years!

Excited to be 2!

So, back to our birthday celebration.  After the doctor we all went to Satchel's for Jacob's birthday dinner.  The next day we completely failed our attempt at Jacob's 2nd year photo shoot and spent the rest of the day getting ready for his birthday party.

The amazing ONLY picture the photographer got during attempt 1 of the photo shoot.  I have no idea how she achieved this!

After the photographer left we did a little bribing with goldfish and had a photo shoot of our own.

Saturday morning we headed to the Santa Fe Zoo for Jacob's birthday party and although it was hot it was a big success.  The zoo has a small playground perfect for 2 year olds in the center with a couple of picnic shelters so we snagged one of those for the food and the kids had a blast playing and walking around the zoo.  The animals were very lively and we saw baby peacocks and baby monkeys.   Thank you to everyone who came, send birthday messages, cards and presents to Jacob.  He had a fabulous 2nd birthday!

Sunday Ganma and Gandad drove back to VA and Jacob woke up from nap with a fever of 104.  This started a 2-3 week sickness.  He had a high fever for 5 days and cough the turned into an ear infection resulting in antibiotic drops.  Now he's on oral antibiotics to clear up the cough that won't go away.  We had a trip planned to visit the whole family Aug 8th-15th and ended up getting on the plane while Jacob still had a fever but he continued to improve throughout the trip and last weekend he seemed to have gained back his fully bubbly, energetic personality.

We did a lot of snuggling and Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood watching when he was sick

Our trip to Virginia was wonderful (minus Jacob not feeling well which caused a lot of sleep deprivation for Mommy.  The weather was awesome and such a welcome change for our 100+ degree, 100% humidity weather we've been experiencing.  We got to meet our now 5 month old nephew/cousin for the first time and spend some wonderful time with all of our family members.  We also went to Alicia and Corey's wedding which was gorgeous.  I can't believe Alicia's married ( I was her babysitter from elementary to high school)!

First time with his own seat.  Ready to go!

Since coming home we've been back to work in full swing.  I've been busy seeing study patients and the semester started this Wednesday so I'm teaching a new group of undergrads.   Mark's been extra busy trying to cram as much work into a week as possible before being out because of his surgery, and Jacob and his buddies have had quite a fun time singing sounds in their clubhouse on the playground at school.

Here's to hoping the last week of August is a bit calmer and September begins with everyone in good health.

Jacob had his 2 year check up this week so I want to post the stats before I forget.  He had a great visit, no crying(that might be because the doctor's office has become a familiar place in past weeks) and they did his height and weight measurements on the big scale this time.  He's growing like a weed, didn't have to get any shots and took the flu mist like a champ after watching his Mickey Mouse get it. :-) He weights 31lbs(80th percentile) and is 35 inches tall(60th percentile).

Here are some pictures to enjoy until I find time to write again.  This is the link is to the pictures our friend Aaron took at Jacob's party.
