Gobble Gobble Gobble

Jacob cheered on the Hokies yesterday in spirit with his new outfit from Uncle Michael and Aunt Claire. We didn't get the game on TV but Daddy and Aunt Jessie went up the street to a restaurant to watch it while Jacob napped and Mommy worked.

Virginia in November

A couple of weeks ago we had a long holiday weekend due to UF Homecoming and Veteran's day so we took the time to fly to VA and spend some time with family. It was a great visit; the weather was perfect and we got to spend time with parent, grandparents, great grandparents, brothers, sisters, aunts and uncles. Jacob was a trooper on all of our flights and despite acquiring 3 new teeth in the 5 days we were there was in good spirits. His favorite part of the trip was by far the dogs. He loves Piper, JJ and Deuce, and he had a good time getting his grandparents to do whatever he wanted. (I.e.- turn the fan off, turn the fan on, turn the fan off, turn the fan on, go outside, ring the bell, turn the light on, turn the fan on . . .). We enjoyed celebrating the holidays a bit early this year with all of our family there together and appreciate everyone's efforts to make the trip! Here are some pictures showing all of the fun we had!

Jacob updates(so I don't forget)

I just wanted to post a few Jacob updates so I didn't forget them. Someday hopefully the blog will help me catch up on his baby books. So, just a few quick things:

- While we were in VA last week Jacob got 2 more teeth and and has a 3rd that's close to coming through too. That's almost double the amount of teeth he left with!

-He runs around the house now, yes, he RUNS! I'll try to get a video.

-Since getting his tubes I've noticed both changes in his speech and language development, but also in his eating. A strange connection but I'm sure it is! He's slowly trying new foods but in just the last 2 weeks has eaten bananas a few times as well as fish and green beans. Lets hope this trend continues.

-This morning on the way to school we were listening to the Raffi station on Pandora and Jacob did the hand motions to "The Itsy Bitsy Spider" and "The Wheels on the Bus" when he heard the songs come on. I didn't even know he knew them!

- His hair is getting even longer and curlier. I never really pictured what his hair would look like before he was born, but I'm sure in whatever picture I had it wasn't curly! It's not surprise and really cute, but not something either of us thought about before he was born.

That's all I can remember for now. I'll try to post trip pictures soon. We had a great time seeing lots of family.

15 month check up

Today Jacob had his 15 month check up. He went to vote with me (his first presidential election) and then we went to the doctor. He's still in the exact same percentile on all 3 stats as he has been so since day 1! He weighs 24lbs, 7oz (50th percentile), he is 32 inches long (75th percentile) and his head circumference is 45cm(5th percentile). He's growing nicely along his own curves.

He had 4 shots today and I was happy to be able to answer "no" to the question "is he currently taking any medicine?"! Fingers crossed, but so far the tubes seem to be helping things! Jacob seems to be quite advanced in his speech and language development but we've noticed advances in his articulation and lots of new words in just the short time since his tubes. Amazing! The doctor today asked if he was saying 4 words other than Mama and Dada. I almost laughed at her. Yesterday he said the word "edamame" completely intelligibly. Watching a child develop is such an amazing thing!

I think he's also going through a growth spurt. Last night for dinner he ate: an entire filet of rainbow trout, 3/4 of a sweet potato, and peas. Then for breakfast he had a bowl of oatmeal, Cheerios, then 3 squeeze packs of fruit and veggies, a little bar and then part of a bagel. . . all before 10am! That just makes me full thinking about it!

15 months

Well, it's been almost a month since I posted last, and I can essentially sum up our month in 1 word: sick!  We've spent most of the last month taking medicines, cuddling, wiping away snotty noses, and not sleeping.    Last Friday Jacob got tubes and we're keeping our fingers crossed we've turned the corner, at least with the ear infections.   It was a hard decision for us but after many Many MANY ear infections and constant antibiotics we decided they were the right thing for him.  The surgery was quick but the recovery was exhausting and we're happy that our little buddy is finally feeling better!  In addition to Jacob being sick, he passed it to Mark numerous times but as of right now we are all antibiotic free (knock on wood).

What a difference a year makes!

Today Jacob is 15 months old (wow)!  We is a very busy boy these days and keeps us one our toes every second.  He's constantly moving.  He never sits still!  He is constantly talking and walking and running and dancing.  If you don't believe me come spend a day at our house, I can promise you'll be ready for a nap when he is!  When he's not sick he's the happiest little guy makes everyday a lot of fun.  His vocabulary amazes up everyday!  Tonight at dinner he signed "thank you" for the first time (proud Mommy moment).  He still is one of the pickiest eaters on the planet but will happily eat cheese, peas, raspberries, cheese, blueberries, sweet potato pancakes, did I say cheeese?, edamame beans, hummus, oatmeal, a bagel (sometimes), crackers, and cheese!  He won't eat any meat, or plain pancakes, or a piece of toast, but tonight he had two pieces of cornbread.  He keeps up on our toes.  He loves birds, dogs, pumpkins, the moon, shoes,  and being outside.  He got a new shopping cart from Beep and has fun going shopping around the house with his water cup and two stuffed animal dogs in the cart.  Happy 15 months sweet buddy!  You're $1.25 as Daddy said.

What a big boy!
