Walking, talking, signing and dancing

Jacob is a walking, talking, signing, dancing, happy little boy these days.  He walks 95% of the time now and loves wearing his shoes.  When he's getting dressed in the morning he often wants to put his shoes on before he has the rest of his clothes on.  His signing vocabulary is still expanding and he is also saying new words everyday.  He surprises me all the time with the words he'll say that I think he may have one heard once or twice in his life!  He signs:  milk, water, more, finished, all done, rain, bird, deer, airplane, tree (those are the ones I can think of at least).

He loves music and dancing and has recently been very fond of tickle time.  He'll walk towards us with the biggest grin on his face and fall into our lap saying "tickle, tickle"to the best of his ability or look at us and then lay down on the floor and roll over so we'll tickle his belly.  He has the sweetest little laugh!

He's also become Mr. Independent and often decides he only wants to walk in one direction (usually the opposite of the way we need to go) or wants to wash his own hair with the washcloth in the bathtub.  He's getting really good but isn't quite there yet and gets upset when we help.  He is also little Mr. Picky eater . . . in his own way.   He's not the typical picky toddler who only wants to eat macaroni and cheese and chicken nuggets, but he has his own list of foods that he'll eat and looks like everything else like it's an alien.  He will consistently eat: peas, edamame beans, yogurt, cheese, hummus, raspberries, blueberries and pasta.  He will usually eat lima beans, spinach, mushrooms, green beans and applesauce.  He will not eat meat, most bread, most fruit and veggies that aren't green.  Oh silly boy!  We aren't complaining because at least it's healthy but sometimes feeding him peas for dinner 5 days in a row gets old.

The weather finally cooled down a tad here this week (or at least the humidity is down a bit, it's still in the mid 80s during the day.  It's been beautiful and we've been taking longer walks in the evening and even went to the park on the way home from school this afternoon for a few minutes.  We're looking forward to many more days we can get outside and play and hope this awesome weather sticks around!

Super Jacob!

Rhode Island

Hi, we haven't forgotten about you! I have lots of updates but we'll see how far I get before I get pulled away to something else. Labor Day weekend Jessie came to visit us and we had a great time visiting with her. Jacob was saying "Jess" by the end of her visit which was adorable and he loved playing with her! By the end of the weekend he wanted her to carry him instead of us. By the time she left though he was sick which is so kindly passed along to both me and Mark. Mark and Jacob went to the doctor Tuesday and were put on antibiotics and I started them by Friday. Jacob ended up with eye and ear infections, poor little guy! After a few days of battling with antibiotics he finally decided to be cooperative when taking them which made all of our lives a lot easier. Since we were all sick and had little energy we debated about canceling out trip to RI until the last minute but ended up going and had a great trip.

What a good little helper!

One year later in his Hokie chair.  The first time we put him in this he was 1 month old.

The chair is much for fun if you stand next to it.

No amused.

And he's off!

That leads me to our last week. We spent Saturday - Wednesday in Rhode Island enjoying the beautiful Fall weather. I attended my favorite Audiology conference and presented a poster while Mark and Jacob explored Providence and got to spend some fun time together. Went went to to zoo as a family the first day we were there. The second day I had a long day of meetings and Mark and Jacob went back to the park where the zoo was and went to the Natural History museum. Tuesday the boys went to the Providence Children's Museum in the morning and had a blast. They ended up taking me back there after Jacob napped and my conference ended. What a fun place!

After the museum we drove to Newport, RI and walked on the cliffs, enjoying the beautiful weather and admiring the mansions. Then it was time for dinner and bed.

Jacob was an amazing traveler! I was nervous about how he would cooperate in the airplane since he's a busy boy these days but he was great! He napped, we read books, ate, looked at the brochures of the airplane and spent lots of time looking for birds out the window. We've decided we're ready to travel the world. (We just need the time and money to allow us).

I'll post some pictures from Rhode Island as soon as I download them.  Have a good weekend!
