Jacob's First 36 hours

It's hard to believe its already been a week since Jacob began his entrance into this world. Last Saturday I began having contractions around 8am. They lasted all day but weren't too intense or consistent. I was able to sleep for a few hours Saturday night but around 2:30am Sunday morning they began to intensify and became progressively stronger and closer together throughout the day. By 5:30pm it was time to go to the hospital. When we arrived I was 7 centimeters dilated and we were pleasantly surprised. I quickly got an epidural (instant relief) and was given some time to rest and finish progressing before pushing. I started pushing at 12:30am and Jacob finally made his arrival on August 1st at 3:35am. He was born on 8/1/11 and weighed 8 lbs 1 oz., in Room 345 at 3:45am. We're pretty convinced he had the whole thing planned out.

Here are some pictures of Jacob's first 36 hours.

Butts up!

Well, we just got back from the doctor and baby is a happy, healthy, content little guy just hanging out in my belly. We had a biophysical profile (basically a specialized ultrasound) done to make sure he was still doing well. He's moving as he should, has good lung development, and my amniotic fluid level is still perfect. So, what does all this mean? We just wait . . . and hope he comes on his own. They couldn't do a weight estimate because his head is so low (I could have told them that!) so that will be a surprise for all of us. We'll probably start trying for an induction next week but the hospital is really busy and there's a good chance it will take days before there is room availability. In the meantime we'll hope he decides he wants to meet us on his own! Here are a few pictures from the ultrasound today.

Due Date

Dear Baby,
You must have not received the memo that TODAY is your due date! Your Dad and are I very excited to meet you so you can come out anytime. We have lots of people for you to meet, clothes for you to wear, toys for you to play with, and a very exciting world to show you. I know it's probably quite warm and cozy inside my belly but there's a lot more room for you out here. Anytime you'd like to come out we're ready (preferably as soon as possible)!
Love, Mom

BOOTS!

Yesterday, we got a package from our friends Shane and Jamie that made our day . . . the little guys first pair of cowboy boots. They are SO adorable!!! The pictures don't do them justice but here they are for your viewing pleasure. I can't wait for him to be old enough to wear them! :-)

This is Mark after opening the package . . . wondering where his pair is?

Thank you Shane, Jamie and Logan!!!

Tick Tock Tick Tock

The past few weeks have been busy with house guests, house work, and . . . waiting! :-) I think the last month of pregnancy is the hardest part. We're ready for baby now (as ready as we're going to be), I'm pretty sure there's NO more room for him to grow in my belly, and now we're just playing the waiting game. We've been finding plenty to do around the house to keep ourselves busy (cleaning out closets, working on some projects, cooking and cleaning) but the anticipation of meeting our little man is always there.

The last week in June our friend Christine and her little boy Luke were here. We had such a good time with them, Luke is 8 months old and so much fun! I took care of him two days while Christine was working and we had a blast. (Nanny B was once again a great help). He even tried out a few of our baby things (toys, towels, bathtub) for us and they met both baby and Mommy approval! Here are few pictures from their visit.

The weekend of July 4th we went to Manatee Springs with a group of friends on Sunday and had a blast picnicking, swimming, and walking on the board walk. We celebrated the 4th with a cookout at home with the Gaters, then watched the NYC fireworks on TV since Gainesville didn't have any this year.

Last weekend Mark and I went to The Ivy House Restaurant in Williston. We were given a gift certificate there for Christmas and decided it would be a fun date before baby arrives. It was a beautiful drive through the country followed by a delicious meal! We'll definitely be taking visitors back there in the future!

We've also been busy watching the Tour de France and the Women's World Cup . . . the US vs. Brazil game kept us on the edge of our seats for a few hours this weekend and we're hoping for another US/ Sweden match up for the finals! Go Team USA!

Time to get to work for the day so until next time . . .

6(13) Wonderful years later

13 years ago this weekend Mark asked me to go on our first date, to the fireworks with Maggie and Scott. . . . oh how our lives have grown and changed during the past 13 years. I got this e-mail from my friend Jamie recently and think it's the perfect thing to share on our 6th wedding anniversary. Today I am sure there isn't a happier, and more blessed woman in the world!

Hannah,

I found this letter in Shane's old things that Mark wrote him sometime when they were both 19. He said the cutest thing in there I had to share it with you:

"I am very blessed to have a girlfriend like Hannah. She means the world to me and I hope that someday you will be able to feel the way I do towards a woman of your own. We talk bad about them sometimes but they sure do bring a lot of happiness to our lives."

Jamie

Soon a new chapter in our lives will begin, and I am excited to experience every moment of it together! Happy Anniversary to the love of my life!
