May Madness

Life's been so busy recently!  Mark and I have both been working long hours.  I finally got all of the approval for my study and have started recruiting and seeing participants.  Mark's had a lot of late meetings including a city commission meeting a few weeks ago that he got home from at 2:30am (where he didn't end up getting to present) and another commission meeting last week until 10:30pm.  Fortunately things are now progressing with the new Tree Ordinance (the reason why he's attending) and we're keeping out fingers crossed everything will be complete before we go to Edisto at the end of June.

Jacob started swimming lessons two weeks ago and they are every evening for 10 minutes, that's making our evening schedule quite busy and it seems it's often 8pm before we know it and we're all exhausted! Jacob's doing well with the lessons and progressing in the techniques he's supposed to be learning but he isn't the biggest fan of them.   We hear "no pool" many times a day now.

I've also been dealing with continued allergy and asthma issues but finally had allergy testing done last week and hope that leads to some better treatment.  Preliminary results suggest I'm allergic to almost everything (I think I already knew that but the testing hit it home) and I'm still itching from some of the injections I had early last week.  I'll be talking to the ENT about everything soon, fortunately we're past the peak Spring allergy season here, but new things trigger them everyday.

Two weekends ago we went to Disney on Saturday with our friend's the Holmans.  We decided to upgrade our 3 day passes to "Seasonal Passes" (annual passes with with block our dates a few times a year) so we can go back more often over the next year.  This time we went to Epcot and had a great time.  We didn't realize there was so much for the little ones there but Jacob and Genevieve had a lot of fun.  The highlights were the boat ride in "The Land", the HUGE fish tank and the Nemo ride.  Jacob still isn't a fan of the characters (unless they are in pictures or from a very large distance).

Last Saturday we went to a local event called Touch a Truck (aka- a toddler boy's dream).  It's a free annual event where kids can see, climb in & explore 80-100 different vehicles.  We went to the first hour which was the quiet hour and Jacob spent the whole time running from truck to truck so excited to see the next one.  He didn't want to sit in many but loved looking at all of them!  The lucky contenders he did ask to sit in and "drive" were the garbage truck, mail truck and backhoe.  If there wasn't a line of people behind us he would have sat in those all day!  Once the sirens and horns started going off (and we were all super hot) we left and went to the Newberry Watermelon Festival.  That was an experience(for lack of a better word).  We did have a good time but the crowd was much different than Touch a Truck.  We ate yummy free watermelon, went on a "train ride" (barrels pulled by a 4 wheeler), had a delicious watermelon lime popsicle and listened to the watermelon queen contestants complete in the hog calling contest.  Saturday afternoon we purchased a trailer for our bike so we can ride with Jacob and we've already had a lot of fun with that.  We took it for a quick spin up to Publix in the evening to buy our Powerball ticket (we didn't win but someone in a town just south of here did).  Sunday we rode to Publix and then to the park and played on the baseball field for a while.  I for see a lot of family fun with bike riding in our future.

We're looking forward to a long holiday weekend coming up . . . for now it's the daily grind of another week.  Lots of pictures coming soon!
