Antibiotics, Airplanes and Crutches

Well, the title of this post generally sums up the last 3 weeks in the Siburt household.

At the beginning of February Jacob had his 6 month check-up and shots. He had a fever and was feeling kinda cruddy for a day or two and then as soon as he was starting to feel better he got sick. After a weekend of fevers, Tylenol and lots of cuddling we went to the pediatrician and found out he had an ear infection in both ears. So, we experienced another first, a 10 day course of Amoxicillin. The same day, my best friend Jessie's Dad was admitted to the hospital with complications from his Melanoma. Jacob and I flew to Virginia to spend time with Jessie and her family on Wednesday Feb. 8th and were so fortunate to be able to spend a couple of days with Mike before he passed. (Mike Naff Obituary) Jacob got to meet his Aunt Jessie for the first time and put smiles on many peoples faces that week. We flew back on Sunday Feb. 12th and at 7am on the 13th Mark had hip surgery. His hip has been hurting for 9 months now and after months of doctors appointments, scans, rest, and physical therapy they decided the best option was surgery to figure out the problem. In the end, it appears to have been a good decision. The doctor found a frayed labrum that he shaved off and cleaned the tissue out of his inflamed and irritated hip joint. Now, the fun really begins. He's on crutches for 6 weeks and completely non-weight bearing for 4 of those. Oh, and did I mention it's his right hip, so no driving either. He's doing well and other than some minor discomfort is just starting to get bored with the fact he can't do what he'd like for the next 5 weeks. Lets hope the surgery fixed the problem and he's on the road to recovery and running.

Happy Valentine's Day

This post is not intended to be a sob story, this is just what we've been doing for the past 3 weeks since my last post, and the reason why I haven't posted since the beginning of February. We're all doing well and taking things one day at a time. Jacob is now back at school after missing 2 weeks and seems to be quite the social butterfly. He smiles and laughs ALL the time, and this week his take home reports said, "Jacob was very happy and talkative" and "Jacob was vocal today". He enjoys playing with his friends at school and all of the wonderful activities they have. We also love every second with him at home! He's so much fun, and becoming so much more inquisitive every day. He is obviously trying to take in everything around him and seems to just enjoy life. He is trying new foods, sitting around and playing with toys, and talking up a storm! At his check up Monday for his ear infection he weighed 18lbs, 14oz. I think the scale they weighed him on at his 6 month appointment wasn't very accurate . . . I'd guess this is closer to the truth :-).

I have still been taking pictures so I have a lot more to post, I'll try to find some time to do that this weekend. I also have a couple videos of our talkative little fellow. I can't believe he'll be 7 months old next week!!!
