Bathtime

I took this picture during bath time tonight and couldn't resist posting it. He's such a happy little guy. We fall more and more in love with him everyday. Here's another Jacob smile for you to enjoy :-)

We made it almost 2 weeks . . .

I'm working today but it's slow so I have a few minutes to burn and thanks to my newly acquired Blogger App for iPhone I can write a post anywhere I want. ( That doesn't mean I'll be updating anymore than usual because I still have to have time, but it was the intention).

So, we made it almost two full weeks of daycare before we got sick. Mark and I starting feeling cruddy half way through the week and now Jacob seems to have the same thing. Nothing bad, just colds but I imagine there will be a lot of tissues used at our house the next few days. We'll just try to look at it as building our immunity right?

The first two weeks of school have gone well other than this cold and some crazy teething Jacob was going through at the beginning of this week. He did his first art project at school this week: he painted green mittens. They take them on walks in 3 and 4 seater baby strollers, can you imagine pushing 2 of those around? ( The weather has been beautiful so he's gotten to go on those almost every day). He plays with his friends ( the first time his teacher told me this I didn't believe her but she showed me pictures of it yesterday). They sit and talk to each other, so cute! He is doing well with his napping there and seems to be slowly but surely adjusting.

Mark and I have both been busy with work and enjoy even more every second we have at home with Jacob! We went on a hike (2+ hours) last weekend with some friends which was a lot of fun. Last weekend was a long weekend because of the Monday holiday and it spoiled all of us!

Jacob is 24 (almost 25 weeks) now and is talking and laughing up a storm. He gets more fun by the minute. Last weekend he started sitting really well on his own. We can't leave him unattended yet but he can sit for 10+ minutes at a time. Things are happening so quickly! He is also enjoying every new food we give him. He loved sweet potatoes as you saw previously, thought that carrots were just as yummy, and likes his oatmeal cereal much better than rice cereal. This week we're trying mango and then butternut squash. Yum yum! He also still loves being outside, is really interested in Bailey and likes to pet her; and he gives Mark and I kisses everyday!

Life is good, just going by too fast. We're trying to enjoy every minute with Jacob and he seems to get more fun by the day! I just can't believe he'll be 6 months old on the 1st!

Have a good weekend!

Happy Birthday Sweet Potatoes!

We've finally settled back down after our whirlwind holiday adventure but life is changing fast.

Sunday was my birthday and we celebrated by spending the day together as a family enjoying the beautiful weather. Mark made me biscuits and country ham for breakfast, and my usual favorite, cherry pie for dessert. Jacob started "school" on Monday and so I just wanted to enjoy my time with him on Sunday and that's exactly what we did, it was a great day first birthday as a Mommy!

Jacob and Bailey enjoying the sunshine.

Jacob also enjoyed his first food (rice cereal doesn't really count) on my birthday. He had one of my favorites, sweet potatoes. I think Mark would agree, Jacob LOVES them! He now gets excited when I get them ready for Mark to feed him each evening. Here's a video of his first sweet potatoes. I love how he raises his eyebrows as he waits for his next bit.

As I mentioned above, Jacob started school on Monday. I think it's been 1000 time harder for Mommy than Jacob (which actually makes Mommy feed a lot better because he's transitioning well so far). I took him Monday morning and stayed with him for a few hours, then left for the afternoon. Today I only took him for a few hours this morning and then spent the afternoon with him. Tomorrow I'm planning on taking him for a longer day but going to feed him and visit half way through. It was SO incredibly hard leaving him the first day, but he napped well, ate well, and they said he was a happy boy :-). Today when I went his teachers had all 7 babies lined up on the floor or in their bouncy seats ready for story time, they are amazing! I really like both of his teachers, that have been very supportive (I'm sure they deal with crazy emotional mothers all the time so they've had a bit of practice). His school really is a great place, and if he has to be in daycare it's our top choice, it's just going to take some adjusting. Here's a picture of our smiling little guy with all of his bags packed, ready for his first day of school.

Other changes in the Siburt household include cloth diapers. (Although we're on a bit of a hiatus already because of a bad diaper rash). We have been researching them for a while and when we were in NC visiting Michael and Claire we were able to go to a store and look at them in person. We finally made the big purchase and started using them on Friday. Ok, I know, you're probably thinking ewwww, cloth diapers! Why would they ever think about that? Well, there are multiple reasons: 1. cost (there is a big up front cost but the pay for themselves within 6 months and we can use the ones we bought until he is potty trained). 2. the environment (this one is the most important, disposable diapers are a big negative here in many ways, their creation, and their space in our landfills). We are really happy with the diapers we chose so far (minus the diaper rash which I think is a common occurrence during this switch and hopefully will clear up soon). We chose a brand called Thirsties and a style that is much different from the traditional cloth diapers you're probably thinking about. After we wash the diapers we "pre-stuff" them and then every time we change a diaper it's just like changing a disposable. That's probably as much information as you want; it's really be an easy transition. Other then figuring out a good washing routine it had been no trouble, and his school doesn't have a problem with them, there are actually 3 kids in his class that use them.

I think that's all I have in me for the evening. Have a good week!

The end of a wonderful year

2011 was a wonderful year! . . .

That's really all I need to say in this blog, but I know you all want pictures so here's a recap of the last couple of weeks. I could have titled this blog many different names: Jacob's 1st Christmas, Jacob Meets . . . , Jacob's first trip, Our Travel Adventures, etc., you get the point.

20 weeks old (and ready for his first Christmas)

We rented a van and left for our Christmas vacation on December 21st at 5:30am. Our plan was to put Jacob in the car after an early morning feed and get as far up the road as we could before he woke up for the day. It was a successful plan as we were half way through Georgia when he woke up. We arrived in Charlotte at Kristen(my cousin) and CJ's house around 4pm and our first leg of the trip was complete. This gave Jacob time to play before bed and the adults a fun evening together to chat and enjoy a delicious meal CJ cooked!

Jacob and Kristen

On the 22nd we left Charlotte early in the morning and finished our drive to VA. It was strange initially for Mark and I to have our baby in Blacksburg, but he fit right in :-). We spent the afternoon with our college roommate and good friend Erin and her baby Wyatt. Wyatt is 6 weeks younger than Jacob and I'm sure these two will be buddies (and troublemakers) for life! Thanks for driving to Blacksburg to see us Erin!!!

Roommates (Past and Future)

We spent the next 5 days in Blacksburg. Jacob met his Great Grandma and Great Grandad along with many many family members and friends. He celebrated his first Christmas (which lasted for a few days because of everyone's different travel plans), and was spoiled rotten with gifts and love. He is one very lucky boy to have such wonderful friends and family and will definitely not be bored anytime soon with all of his new toys! Mark and I also attended our 10 year high school reunion while we were in VA. We only went for a couple of hours after we put Jacob to bed but it was nice to catch up with old friends. The best/funniest part of the evening is that we drove a minivan, the same thing we drove on one of our first dates; and we spent the drive to and from the reunion reminiscing about the last 10 years.

My boys, checking out the wildlife at Beep and Pops house.

21 Weeks Old (the date after Christmas)

On the 28th we left Blacksburg and drove to Morrisville (Raleigh/Durham, NC) to Michael and Claire's house. We took a quick pit stop in Hillsville to visit with Claire's brother John and wife Robin who are expecting their little girl any day now. We spent the next 3 days with Michael and Claire and a long time friend Maggie. We ate yummy BBQ, enjoyed the beautiful weather, took walks to the house Michael and Claire are building, bought cloth diapers (that's a whole different post for the near future), went to the Arboretum at NC State, and celebrated Jacob's first New Years (by going to be at 9:30pm). Mark was very disappointed that we didn't see the nut drop (Raleigh "drops" a huge acorn at midnight on New Years Eve). Jacob also decided to roll over again while he was at Uncle Michael and Aunt Claire's house. The first (and last) time he rolled over we were Skyping with them, what a little show off :-). On New Years day we drove back to Gainesville and our first travel adventure came to an end. Jacob was such a trooper and was a better traveler than we could have wished for, but we were all happy to be home on Monday and sleep in our own beds.

Visiting Uncle Michael at his office. Think we have a future engineer?

Jacob napping in his new carrier while we walk around Lake Crabtree.

Hanging out with Aunt Claire and Uncle Michael

Can you tell he's just a little bit excited?

Laughing with Maggie

The van (the second of the trip, the first one was replaced because we woke up with 2 flat tires the second morning).

Jacob's 1st Christmas could probably be summed up like this:

12 rounds of ABCs (although it was probably closer to 12,000)
11 hours in the car (x 2)
10 days of traveling
9 entertaining doggies (Jacob loves dogs right now)
8 dirty diapers a day
7 Christmas outfits
6 not so silent nights
5 Aunts and Uncles
4 different houses
3 car seats
2 Great Grandparents
and one very blessed little boy!

This week we are unpacking and getting ready for school to begin. Jacob and I both start school on Monday and it will be a big adjustment for everyone. I have many mixed emotions about this new phase and am making the most of this week snuggling with my little buddy. It's hard to keep up with the blog posts as quickly as Jacob grows and changes these days but I'll do my best. We are looking forward to all the new things 2012 will bring. Happy New Year everyone!

22 Weeks

This cute little boy is 22 weeks old today and was excited to have his rice cereal with Daddy for dinner!
